MEET OUR
VETERINARIANS

Dr.
Jenni Smagala
Dr. Smagala
completed her undergraduate degree at
Ursinus College in Collegeville,
Pennsylvania in 2005 with a B.S. in
Biology. She then attended Purdue
University School of Veterinary Medicine
in Lafayette, Indiana.
After graduation
from veterinary school in 2009, Dr.
Smagala completed a one year internship
in small animal medicine and surgery at
VCA Newark Animal Hospital. She joined
the Lums Pond team in the summer of
2010.
Dr. Smagala resides
in Newark, DE with her cat, “Taft”. In
her free time, she enjoys water skiing,
reading and spending time with friends
and family. Dr. Smagala has a twin
sister who is also a veterinarian.

Dr.
Colletti
Dr. Colletti
graduated from the University of
Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Biological
Basis of Behavior. She received her
veterinary degree from the University of
Pennsylvania School of Veterinary
Medicine in 1989. Following graduation,
Dr. Colletti completed a one-year
internship in small animal medicine and
surgery at Oradell Animal Hospital in
Paramus, New Jersey. She then returned
to Pennsylvania and has been practicing
small animal veterinary medicine in the
Delaware Valley since 1991. Dr. Colletti
became a Diplomate of the American Board
of Veterinary Practitioners, certified
in canine and feline practice, in 2002.
Dr. Colletti resides in Chester Springs,
PA with her husband Tony. They share
their home with two Rhodesian
Ridgebacks, Trapper and Geordi, and a
pond of ornamental goldfish. In her
spare time, Dr. Colletti enjoys reading,
fitness training, sporting events
(especially football!) and spending time
with Tony and the dogs.

Dr.
Malcolm Kram
Dr. Kram has a long
history in veterinary medicine which
began in 1974 when he graduated from
Cornell University's College of
Veterinary Medicine.
He began in New
York City where he was the owner and
director of the Animal Clinic of New
York for over 18 years. During this
time he was President of the Veterinary
Medical Association of New York City and
also was the anchor for the nationwide
pet health radio program for ABC Cap
Cities. In 1989, Dr. Kram was awarded
the 2nd Congressional Science Fellowship
for veterinarians and worked for the US
House of Representatives Committee on
Agriculture, and subsequently was
intimately involved with the writing and
passage of federal legislation that
allowed veterinarians to prescribe human
medicine when appropriate for use in
sick animals. Dr. Kram joined Lums
Pond Animal Hospital in 1994 while he
also worked for Pfizer Animal Health in
providing veterinarians critical
information on how to improve outcomes
with their medicines. In 2004, he
was named "Veterinarian of the Year" in
Pennsylvania. Most recently Dr. Kram
has completed training at the
International Veterinary Acupuncture
Society and will be providing
acupuncture and herbal therapies for our
client's animals and pets referred by
other veterinary hospitals. Dr. Kram lives with
his partner, a human doctor, their
standard poodle "Babka" and senior
citizen cat "Knaidel" in Betterton,
Maryland.

Dr.
Danielle Downs
Dr. Danielle Downs
has been working as a small animal
veterinarian at Lums Pond Animal
Hospital since 2009. Dr. Downs,
originally from New York, received her
undergraduate degree in Animal Science
from the University of Delaware in 2002.
Prior to returning to school in 2005 for
her DVM degree, Dr. Downs worked for U
of D as a biotechnology research
associate and as a volunteer
environmental educator with the
AmeriCorps Program. Dr. Downs
graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary
Medicine from the University of Georgia
in 2009 and soon after joined the
practice at Lums Pond Animal Hospital.
Dr. Downs resides in Newark, Delaware,
with her husband and three dogs.
You may meet one of her dogs, Molly,
when you visit the Lums Pond Animal
Hospital. A diabetic for two years,
Molly, often volunteers as a
demonstration patient for clients with
newly diagnosed diabetic pets. Dr.
Downs enjoys spending her free time
hiking, kayaking and traveling.
Dr.
Jeanette Russell
Dr. Russell is
originally from Wilmington, Delaware.
She completed her undergraduate degree
at the University of Delaware in 2005,
with a B.S. in Animal Science. Dr.
Russell then attended the University of
Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine
in Athens, Georgia. After
graduation from veterinary school, she
completed a one-year internship at VCA
Newark Animal Hospital in Newark,
Delaware.
Dr. Russell resides
in Newark, Delaware, with her husband,
Chris. They have three dogs;
Doyle, Shortie, and Alva, as well as one
cat named O’Malley. In her free
time Dr. Russell enjoys music, anything
to do with the outdoors, and time with
friends and family.
Dr.
Michelle Crosier
Dr. Crosier grew up
in Camden, DE. She completed her
undergraduate studies at Washington
College in Chestertown, MD, and attended
veterinary school at North Carolina
State University in Raleigh, N.C.
Dr. Crosier worked for six years as an
associate in a small animal/exotic
practice near Annapolis, MD, prior to
joining the staff at Lums Pond Animal
Hospital in 2004. Dr. Crosier has
an interest in exotic animal medicine,
and provides care for small mammals,
birds, and reptiles in addition to dogs
and cats. Her other veterinary
interests include dentistry, pain
management, and preventative care. Dr. Crosier lives
in Middletown with her husband Dennis,
children Erik and Paige, dogs Cricket
and Boaz, cockatiels Sunny and Tang, and
new cat Layla. Her hobbies include
baking, scrapbooking, and travel.
Dr.
Barbara Harris
Dr. Harris grew up
in the Brandywine Hundred area of north
Wilmington. In 1988, she graduated from
Northwestern University in Evanston,
Illinois with B.A degrees in Economics
and Political Science. After
working for several years as a
management information consultant in
Chicago, Dr. Harris returned to
veterinary school at the University of
Wisconsin, Madison where she received
her veterinary degree in 1999.
Following graduation, Dr. Harris
completed a one year internship in small
animal medicine and surgery at the
Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Michigan
State University.
Dr. Harris
currently resides in Wilmington,
Delaware with her husband Bruce,
daughter Erin, dog Gandalf, and cats
Sati, Bob, and Ron Weasley. In her
spare time, Dr. Harris enjoys reading,
traveling, and almost any outdoor
activity.
